BCO
Story
Bakhtar Community Organisation
Bakhtar Community Organisation is a charitable, non-profit and first Afghan Australian secular organisation based in Victoria with a small team of staff supported by over fifty dedicated volunteers.
We provide support, material aid and socially inclusive activities and services to a diverse range of community members many of whom are disadvantaged, refugees, isolated or marginalised due to family dysfunction, family violence, infirmity, disability, homelessness, mental illness or the long-term effects of drug or alcohol use.
Our main goal is to bridge the gap between the community and the government services, provide a point of connection aimed at reducing isolation, promoting inclusion, integration and fostering mutually beneficial relationships amongst those who attend and offering pathways to involvement with the wider community.
At BCO, your donation will make a positive change on the life of our community’s most vulnerable families and individuals.
The donation feeds and provides shelter for a family who recently arrived in Australia from war and persecution and start from nothing.
Your donation to a refugee family gives a path to a new life.
Activity
ASRC Footscray (Asylum Seeker Resource Centre)
The Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC) is both a place and a movement.
As an independent not for profit organisation, we are owned and run by our community. Our programs empower people seeking asylum to maximise their own physical, mental and social well-being. As a movement, we mobilise and unite communities to create lasting social and policy change for people seeking asylum in Australia.
We assist over 7,000 people seeking asylum each year from our centres in Footscray and Dandenong, Victoria.
